Ken Barringer, M.A.,LMHC Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 12 *** Email: KBarringer@AcademyNewton.com Ken Barringer is the director of the Academy. He has been with the Academy since 1981. Ken earned his degrees from Clark University and Lesley University. He is the former chairperson of the Children's Group Therapy Association and is currently a member of the American Counseling Association, Mass. Mental Health Counselors Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and Association for Specialists in Group Work. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Boston College School of Education and a consultant to public and private schools. He also maintains a private therapy practice. Craig Keefe, LICSW Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 23 *** Email: CKeefe@AcademyNewton.com Craig Keefe is the clinical director and supervises the Academy program. He received his undergraduate degree from Wheaton College and his social work degree from Boston College. Craig has been with the Academy since 1996. He has worked with a diverse population of children and adolescents in schools, agencies and hospital settings. He is also a part-time faculty advisor at the Boston College School of Social Work. Jessica Capone, M.A., LMHC Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 15 *** Email: JCapone@AcademyNewton.com Jessica Capone, Program Manager for the Academy has been a staff member since 1997. Jessica obtained both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Boston College. As an undergraduate, Jessica majored in psychology and obtained a Masters degree in counseling psychology. Jessica currently maintains both a group and individual caseload at the Academy, has experience in training and consulting within the public school sector, and as Program Manager is responsible for monitoring the daily operations of the Academy program itself. In addition, Jessica also maintains the position as director of the Academy's summer program, Camp Nonantum. Jim Bellanca, M.A., LMHC Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 14 *** Email: JBellanca@AcademyNewton.com Jim Bellanca returns to the Academy for his tenth year as a staff member after a several-year hiatus. Jim has been licensed as a Mental Health Counselor since 1998 and, in addition to his years at the Academy, has worked in a number of therapeutic and public schools as a counselor and administrator. Jim extends his enjoyment of working with elementary and middle school students throughout the summer months as Director of Running Brook Day Camp in Waltham. Veronica Carney, MA, LMHC Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 19 *** Email: VCarney@AcademyNewton.com Veronica Carney joined the Academy in 2003 and currently works as a group counselor and individual therapist for children and adolescents. She holds a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston College in addition to a BA in Early Childhood Education and Psychology from Dartmouth College. She obtained her Elementary Education Certification in 2001 and has worked as a Certified Personal Trainer since 2002. Veronica has also worked in past years as a full time Physical Education Teacher in two Boston Public Charter Schools implementing curriculums that fostered physical, social and emotional development. Additionally, she consults with public schools on mental health and group related issues. Veronica is the founder and director of the Academy's personal training program, IN MOTION, which supports children with social and emotional needs to become more physically active and confident. Veronica is also the co-founder of the Academy Sports Program which has helped children learn and practice traditional sports in the safe environment of the Academy since 2004. She carries an associates degree in accounting and has been a bookkeeper for 25 years. In addition to the Academy, Denise maintains positions with Running Brook Day Camp and the Windsor Press. S. Otto Johnson, M.Ed., CAGS Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 38 *** Email: OJohnson@AcademyNewton.com Otto has his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in elementary education and his Masters and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from UMass-Boston in school psychology. He has taught 2nd and 3rd grade for 13 years before shifting his careeer to school psychology. Otto is currently a school psychologist at the Walsh Middle School in Framingham and is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. She earned her Master's Degree in Counseling and Sport Psychology at Boston University, and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) in Counseling Psychology at Lesley University in 2005. In addition to leading groups, Emily spent her first two years at the Academy teaching Physical Education at the Conservatory Lab Charter School. In 2004, she co-developed the Academy Sports program, which provides organized sports experience for children who have had little to no other participation in sports. Emily also works for Project Joy. Anelise Tubinis, M.A.,LMHC Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 39 *** Email: ATubinis@AcademyNewton.com Anelise Tubinis received her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston College in 2000 and has been a licensed mental health counselor since 2005. Previously she worked in the Chelsea Public Schools as an adjustment counselor and has also worked as a group therapist at Arbour hospital in Jamaica Plain. Currently, she is a clinical care manager at MHSPY, a wraparound program that serves children and families with significant mental health needs. She also works as both an individual and family therapist at Eliot Mental Health in Everett.

She holds undergraduate degrees in psychology and criminology from the University of Florida and a Master's degree in Social Work from Boston College. She has experience with children and adolescents and has provided individual and group therapy in a variety of therapeutic settings. In addition to running groups during the school year, Allyn is a staff member for the Academy's summer program, Camp Nonantum. Kristen Denty-Keefe, MA, M.Ed., LMHC Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 33 *** Email: KDentyKeefe@AcademyNewton.com Kristen Denty-Keefe has been a member of the Academy staff since 1995. Kristen recieved both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Boston College. As an undergraduate, Kristen majored in psychology and obtained a Masters Degree in counseling psychology. In 2004, she acquired her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Framingham State College. Kristen has worked with a diverse population of children and adolescents in a variety of settings and spent 7 years as the Director of a therapeutic middle school and diagnostic assessment program. Kristen is currently the district wide Behavior Specialist for the Mendon-Upton Regional School District and maintains a small private therapy practice. She also provides behavioral consultation to variety of public school districts and provides ongoing professional development trainings. Kristen is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and holds certifications through the Massachusetts Department of Education as a School Social Worker and Assistant Principal/Principal Grades 5-8. Kristin France Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 37 *** Email: KFrance@AcademyNewton.com Kristin France is beginning her first year as an Academy Staff member after working as an Academy intern for the 2009-2010 school year. She also worked at the Academy's summer program, Camp Nonantum during the summer of 2010. She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan, and her her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Boston College. Before her work at the Academy, Kristin served as a coach for the international program Girls on the Run, which promotes positive self-esteem and healthy living for young girls. She also worked for five years as a direct care provider in group homes for developmentally and mentally disabled adults. Hereceived his BA in Cultural Anthropology and Spanish from Boston University and is currently completing a master's degree in social work at Simmons College in Boston. He has worked with children and adolescents in school, hospital, and community settings in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Laurel Miller Pirelli, M.S., C.A.G.S. Phone: 617-969-2200 ext. 34 *** Email: LPirelli@AcademyNewton.com Laurel Pirelli has worked with children and adolescents in a counseling capacity for 11 years. After graduating from Dickinson College, she worked with behaviorally and emotionally challenged children in Beverly Public Schools. While earning her Applied Educational Psychology M.S. in 1999 and her School Psychology C.A.G.S. in 2000 from Northeastern University, Laurel worked with a diverse population of middle school students in Framingham Public Schools. She has since been a school psychologist in West Newbury and Ashland, working with a wide age-range of students and their families. Laurel is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists as well as a member of the Massachusetts School Psychologists Association. Additionally, she volunteers professional consultation for various community endeavors. The Academy is involved with the training of new counselors. We are an internship site for graduate schools of counseling and social work. Area colleges we are affiliated with include; Boston College Schools of Education and Social Work, Boston University School of Medicine, Mental Health and Behavioral Medicine Program and the Boston University School of Social Work, Simmons School of Social Work, Lesley University, Northeastern University, Framingham State Mental Health Program, the UMass Mental Health Counseling Program, and the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. |
